Neuromuscular Diseases

Neuromuscular disease is a broad term that encompasses many diseases and ailments that impair the functioning of the muscles.

These diseases can be caused directly by conditions that affect the muscle fibers and cells directly or indirectly by affecting the nerves that control the muscles. The disorders cause the muscles to lose their function, becoming weaker and eventually fade away, causing symptoms such as twitching, spasms, and pain. Many of the conditions are inherited genetic conditions, others can have an autoimmune element, whilst for some the causes are still unknown.
